Your expert for intrinsic safety

Steffen Scholle

I offer consulting, seminars and development support in the field of electrical explosion protection and accompany you through the entire certification process. My focus is on the intrinsic safety type of protection (Ex i), supplemented by extensive experience in other electrical types of protection.

Rely on expert support for safe and standard-compliant solutions!

Why “Ex i” is one of the most flexible and safest types of ignition protection

Understanding intrinsic safety — simple and practical

What is intrinsic safety?
Intrinsic safety — or “Ex i” — is one of the most important types of ignition protection for electrical devices in potentially explosive atmospheres. But what exactly is it? And why does it play such an important role in practice?

The big advantage: with intrinsically safe circuits, the energy is limited in such a way that no ignition source can arise even in the event of a fault. This makes this type of protection particularly reliable and flexible — for example for sensors, hand-held devices or small control components that are used in gas or dust atmospheres.

Devices with intrinsically safe protection level ia fulfil the highest requirements and may therefore also be used in Zone 0 (gas) and Zone 20 (dust) — i.e. in areas in which an explosive atmosphere is present permanently or for long periods of time. Intrinsic safety is also a globally recognised and established type of protection and plays a central role in international approvals and the safe operation of electrical devices in hazardous areas.

Would you like to find out more? In the knowledge area you will find initial articles and tips — a collection of easy-to-understand information on intrinsic safety and related topics is gradually being compiled.

Technical understanding meets approval expertise

As an electrical engineer with roots in product development, I know the challenges that developers face in explosion protection — from my own experience.

Through my work in industry and at DEKRA as an inspector, seminar leader and auditor, I have learnt not only to understand technical standards, but also to apply and communicate them in a practical way.

With ExiMentor, I support developers, project managers and approval officers in efficiently leading Ex projects to type approval.

If you are looking for a competent partner at eye level — I look forward to hearing from you.

“Taking explosion protection into account early on ensures reliable project planning.”

From the idea to approval

I specialise in providing technical support in explosion protection.

I support you in all phases of your certification project — with practical training, targeted advice and technical support during the development and approval process. My range of services is aimed at anyone who wants to bring electrical devices in explosion protection to type approval efficiently, in compliance with standards and with technically convincing documentation.

Choose the right seminar for your project

  • Intrinsic safety practice workshop

In this workshop, you will actively work on technical documents, carry out calculations and evaluate protection concepts. Step by step, we will work out together how to set up, document and evaluate an intrinsically safe system.

    Präsensveranstaltung

  • Intrinsic safety seminar

In this seminar you will learn the basics and special requirements of intrinsic safety. We will discuss the background and developments in the standard.

    Präsensveranstaltung

  • Verification of intrinsically safe circuits: learning by example

Understand the meaning of the intrinsically safe parameters, apply them and create an intrinsic safety certificate.
